The Hobbs boys track and field team found itself atop another meet as the Eagles bested the field at the Artesia Invitational on Friday. Hobbs’ 162 points was 37 better than second- place Artesia. Lovington finished third with 59 points. Hobbs’ K.T. Manis (10:28.96) and Alfonso Rangel finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run. The Eagles also took the top two spots in the 110 hurdles with Aaron Williams placing first (15.45) and Daniel Fuentes finishing second (15.57). Fuentes finished first in the 300 hurdles (41.68) while Aaron Williams placed second (42.58) and Juan Rivera took fourth (43.14). P.J. Smith took first place in the 200 (23.18) while Shelby Reeves finished fifth (23.59). Hobbs took four of the top five spots in the 1,600 with Julian Florez taking first (4:40.00), Zac Enriquez finishing second (4:51.30), Manis placing fourth (4:52.82) and Rangel finishing fifth (4:53.70). In the 100, B.J. Hicks finished second (10.83) for Hobbs while Lovington’s O.T. Woods (11.04) finished fourth. Florez took third in the 800 (2:05.31) while Reeves took third in the 400 (52.96). The 4x200 Hobbs relay team of Hicks, Tyler Wilson, Tanner Wilson and Ivan Harrell took first with a state-qualifying time of 1:30.75. Hobbs’ 1,600 medley relay squad of Hicks, Tyler Wilson, Garrett Reber and Sal Duarte also finished first with a state-qualifying time of 3:38.34. Hobbs’ 4x400 relay team (Duarte, Reber, Tyler Wilson, Tanner Wilson) finished second with a time of 3:35.40. The Eagle foursome of Wilson, Smith, Reber and Harrell took third in the 4x100 relay with Lovington’s team of Edgar Medina, Erick Delgado, Zac Kann and Woods finishing second. Rantz Braggs (131 feet, 2 inches) and Kevin Fry (128-1.5) took the top two spots in the discus while teammates Dunsy Haynes (117-8) and Dylan Aguilar (116-5) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Fry finished second (47-9) in the shot put while Haynes finished fifth (42-3.5) and Eric Ford sixth (41-1). Brandon Dean won the triple jump (40-6.5) while Smith finished third (39-8.75). Hobbs’ Justin Kemp took second in the javelin (144-4). In the long jump, Marcus Joiner finished fourth (19-6) while Smith finished sixth (18-10). Hobbs hosts the Pat Henry Qualifier on Tuesday.
