The Hobbs High School Swimming & Diving Team traveled to Monahan’s TX where they got to see some strong TX teams. Hobbs was the only NM team out of 10 teams.

The divers started off the Monahan’s Invitational in a strong way. Daisy Luna competed well with a 5th place finish and Senior Mallet Reid won his 2nd meet in a row.
The girl’s team continues to improve very quickly. The addition of 3 new swimmers was exciting. “We actually were able to swim an A and B relay for all 3 relays on the girl’s side. We haven’t done that in a while. To make things better, we have another new swimmer that will be ready to go by the Hobbs’ Invite.” While the girl’s are really close to State Qualifying times, they have already qualified in many events for the Lubbock Invitation. Freshmen Haley Ankerholz missed her qualifying time in the 50 Freestyle twice by .7 seconds. “She just needs to relax and she will get that time soon. The 50 Freestyle is an unforgiving race- It’s all about the start, turn, and finish. If any of those are off, it will cost you.
On the boy’s side, the 200 Medley A Relay improved their State Qualifying time by 2 seconds. This brings them within 3 seconds of the Hobbs High School Record. The same 4 boys did very well in the other relays also. Not only did the Boys A relays qualify for the Lubbock Invitation but so did the Boys B relays. That is something that doesn’t happen too often. It shows the depth of this boys team. Freshmen Danny Cornejo earned a State Qualifying time in the 200 Freestyle and Freshmen Tyler Drake missed a qualifying time in the 100 Breaststroke by .28 seconds. Senior Tyler Pallanes is also within a second of the 50 Freestyle.
